Five years ago, I was his preceptor in Alexandra Hospital. Frank Campano III came to Singapore for his externship while he was still doing the Doctor of Optometry program in Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now known as PCO at Salus University) in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA.
Seeing Frank today brought back so many memories of my alma mater, the days I spent in Pennsylvania with my classmates, the fun times we had in college and in the apartment we resided in, the trips we took to New York and Washington DC… amongst many other beautiful memories I had back in 2004 to 2007. Wow! How time flies! I just realised that had been about 8 – 10 years ago!!
Fast forward 5 years to now, Frank has graduated, addressed as Dr Campano by his patients, married a beautiful girl, moved to a beach town in Florida, enjoying the pleasant weather there, away from the snow and slush of winter in New York where he was originally from.
Frank returned to Singapore for a short visit this time. We caught up with each other over dim sum at Taste Paradise in Ion Orchard. Not only did we enjoy the great food and warm ambience, we had a ball of time entertaining E while simultaneously chatting away.
That was Frank teaching E her first lesson in fencing, starting with chopsticks. E was so entertained, she persistently thrust her make-do épée at him, compelling him to duel with her. Hmmm… That was an interesting activity to keep her occupied while we waited for our food to arrive. Haha.. Frank is good with kids.
I sure hope more of my international students come to Singapore for a visit, particularly Lise Marie, Liv and Beatrice from Norway, and others from PCO, as well as some from University of Melbourne, Australia. I wish them all, the best in every good thing they do. Till later!
