The day has finally arrived! Everyone in the Oh family have been enthusiastically looking forward to our Great NZ Family Road Trip. This is the time when all of us reunite again, after a long separation of more than 3 years since our wedding in September 2011. J’s family members are scattered all over the globe – Dad and Mum reside in Penang, Malaysia; JMIDM originally in Auckland, NZ have been residing in London, UK for the past 4+ years; Shen had been in Dunedin, NZ for his MB ChB study in Otago University; and we are in Singapore, although we did spent the entire year of 2013 in Calgary, Canada, where E was born.
We booked the night flight from SIN to AKL on the new A380 Airbus introduced by Singapore Airlines to their New Zealand fleet. My family came to see us off at the airport before they headed off for their dinner at Paradise Inn in a different terminal…
… we too, got our own quick fix for dinner after we passed the immigration counter.
We enjoyed our beef noodles from 香港盛记甜品 before rushing towards the departure gate to wait for boarding.
We took off at 9:00 pm from Changi Airport, and arrived at 12 noon in Auckland Airport. Little E didn’t do so well on this 10 hr flight, perhaps because she has grown wiser and is probably more aware of her immediate surroundings.
As the flight was rather fully booked, and due to some discrepancies between the way J and E’s names were written between their passports and the way NZ immigration required, we couldn’t check in online and didn’t manage to secure ideal seats for ourselves. However, we thank God for giving us the middle seats near the back of the Airbus. There was an empty seat in between, and that gave us room to wriggle and stretch when necessary.
Little E only slept for 1.5 hrs at 1.00 am (Singapore time), she woke up at 2.30 am and napped for another short 30 min at 4.30 am. It was a tiring flight for all three of us, and sorry to mention, all the other passengers on the same flight as us. We were just glad and thankful that God granted us safety and a smooth flight, all the way to Auckland, NZ.
“But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread Your protection over them, that all who love Your name may be filled with joy.” (Psalm 5:11 NLT)
