Day 11: Auckland, Cloudy, 24ºC max, 15ºC min.
The bed in Sky City Grand Hotel was so comfy we were almost reluctant to wake up in the morning! Despite having had a feast at last night’s dinner in Monsoon Poon, our growling stomachs were asking to be fed by 9 am. Hence, we packed and went to Fortuna Buffet Restaurant.
We had American Breakfast, some mee goreng, fruits and vegetables, cheese, etc. while Little E finished 1.5 bowls of oatmeal!
We had enough food to last till our next meal when we reached the airport later this afternoon. We checked out from the hotel, and had to rush to our car rental kiosk to return our Highlander. But before that, J insisted we must visit Mount Eden to take in the fantastic 360º panoramic views it offers.
Auckland’s highest natural point, Mount Eden (also known as Mangawhau), is the highest of Auckland City’s volcanoes at 196 metres high, with a 50 metres deep bowl-like crater. Centrally located, it is both a prominent feature of the Auckland landscape and a great vantage point providing views in all directions over the city.
That was me pointing towards One Tree Hill.
While we were at the summit, we saw many people walking up, as their morning exercise. Little E was excited at the sight of a dog. The lady owner was very friendly to allow her canine friend to meet and greet Little E. That made Little E really happy!
We spent about 10 min on the summit and had to rush to a petrol kiosk to fill up the tank before we could return the car. All this while, we were thinking how to clean up the crumbs that have accumulated on the floor and the seats of the car throughout our 10 day road trip. Due to time constraint, and looking at the mess we have done, J was prepared to pay $100 for the cleanliness fine. But thank God! The petrol kiosk we chanced upon today had a vacuum cleaner which is activated by slotting a $2 token into the power stand! The suction was so good, our car was as clean as new! Praise the LORD! He is awesome!!
With the Mount Eden’s visit, plus the vacuuming and petrol filling in the kiosk, and returning of the car, which includes car checks, and shuttling us to the airport, we still managed to check in on time! Phew! Thank God!
Little E did so much better with the day flight. Something for us to consider next time we fly long distance. That was her happily reading the SilverKris magazine, and yes, she has grown too long for the bassinet. Our baby girl is growing too fast… I could still remember the day she was born, it felt like it happened just yesterday… In the blink of an eye, she is already 15 months +8 days old today.
Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power. Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp. Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. (Psalm 150 KJV)
