Day 1: Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La, Batu Ferringhi
We woke up at 5 am this morning, to be ready and be on time for the flight to Penang which was scheduled at 8 am. Little E was such a pleasure to have on board the Silkair airbus. Now that she knows her animals, it becomes so easy for us to just show her and talk her through the magazines on board, that also has pictures of animals. When our little one became bored, we drew animals (dog, cat, lion) on the air-sick bag, and she loved it!
We checked into Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La, Penang. J has booked the Executive Seaview Suite that is the resort’s largest and finest accommodation, in which we spent 3 days and 2 nights in total comfort in the 700+ sq ft suite that has a humongous balcony to boot. And we invited our special guests i.e. Dad and Mum to enjoy the suite and hotel facilities with us.
Mum even brought fabulous home-cooked food for us and especially Little E! Thank you Mum and Dad for making our stay so special and heartwarming!
Golden Sands Resort, Penang is a family-friendly resort that has won several family-oriented awards. I took Little E to the Adventure Zone, a 10,300 sq ft comprehensive indoor playground that caters to family-style activities, allowing children, teens and adults to interact together in a safe environment.
It houses 2 daredevil slides that even I didn’t dare to take! They are practically vertical! When we first saw them, we wondered if it is even possible to slide down, without tumbling over… until we saw some kids sliding down at a thrilling breakneck speed! Whoa!!
Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to carry Little E while sliding down such a vertical slide. Moreover, we were not wearing long sleeves and long pants, so even I was not allowed to give it a try.
We ended up climbing through the obstacle courses, rung-ladders, spinning on merry-go-rounds, etc.
And the favourite spot for Little E? The ball pit, which contains both of her “favouritest” things: Balls and Colours!
We returned home after an hour’s play, for Little E’s afternoon nap! Mum and Dad came by in the evening, and spent some precious time with us. We relaxed on the deckchairs at the beachfront, Mum, J and Little E swam in the pool, Dad did not join in because of his cold, and I worked out in the gym!
After the fun activities, we walked to the nearby Long Beach Hawker Centre for some local food fare. We ordered Penang Hokkien Mee, Char Kway Teow, Ee Foo noodles, Chicken Teriyaki Rice, etc. And that was our dinner, settled!
To digest all the hawker’s food, we walked and shopped through the Batu Ferringhi night market, and arrived at the end of it where The Ship Restaurant is located.
Then we walked back to Golden Sands after that. We chatted in our suite’s lounge, watched some news, then bade farewell to Mum and Dad, and rested for the night. Having had such a wonderful first day, this CNY vacation is going to be such a blessed relaxing and rejuvenating week for us, made ultra-special & cherishable by Mum and Dad with us.
