At the Little Ones Club today, the children sat on a large mat as they sang Sunday school songs in worship and praise to The Lord.
Before long, they enjoyed the worship and praise so much that everyone stood up and surrounded Shu Jin who led the song worship. The children were singing “With Christ in the vessel” with all the actions. It was pure joy to watch them, not just in their singing and dancing, but also their willingness and enthusiasm to give their offering when the offering doll came out.
Giving to God is a core value of our faith that should be taught early and reinforced often. Although 18 mo Little E may not fully understand the reason and meaning of tithing yet, it still brings pleasure to me as her mother to see that she is keen to participate, not just in the giving, but also the praying.
Teaching children to pray is a vital part of introducing them to Jesus and reinforcing their relationship with God. And looking at our own little one, we believe that children can start learning to pray even before they can speak in coherent sentences. Thus, as with any good habit, we desire to reinforce prayer as a regular part of her life as early as possible.
Today’s bible story was on Nehemiah. To make it interesting and engaging, Iris dressed as Nehemiah as she told the story to the little children, and brought in blocks and toys to help the children visualise the story.
The children helped to build the walls of Jerusalem and tried their best to fortify their building project by working closely together and strategised where the gates and towers should be… Then they placed in the “residents” of Jerusalem when they finished building.
Then everyone sat in a circle and took turns to recite the memory verse for today, taken from Deuteronomy 6:18 → “I will do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord.”
As the session came to an end for the day, all the children helped to fold up the large mat that they sat on throughout the class, and each child received a chocolate-centred marshmallow as a reward! You should have seen the big grin on their faces! =D
Praise The Lord! ❤
